A stunning small Aurichalcite nodule with crystal cavity. Measures approximately 2″ x 2″ x 1.5″ (50.8 x 50.8 x 38 mm or 5 x 5 x 3.8 cm), and weighing 3.6 ounces. Chihuahua, Mexico.
Aurichalcite is also known as Auricalcite, Auricalcocita, Aurichalcita, Blue Calamine, Buratite, Messingite, Orichalcite, Risseite. It is a carbonate mineral. Monoclinic. (Zn,Cu)5(CO3)2(OH)6. Composition of copper and zinc makes it a naturally occuring brass, but not common enough to use a ore. Sign of zinc deposits nearby. Also known as mountain brass or mountain copper.
