Tree Cross – This combines two of the most ancient symbols, each of which unites a pair of opposites. The tree unites the mundane earth with the spiritual sky or heavens. The CROSS unites the masculine trunk with the horizontal feminine branches which bear protective leaves and nourishing fruit. The tree is highly significant in the Bible with the first the Tree of Life (the earthly paradise and in seductive fruits) and second the TREE OF KNOWLEDGE of good and evil (the lure of the other reality where opposites unite, ultimately the lure of Sophia, the feminine of wisdom). Tree worship, throughout the Bronze Age, from Palestine to Ireland, throughout the Bronze Age, was associated with the worship of the Triple Moon Goddess. As a TREE the annual renewal of foliage promises rebirth as a CROSS it signifies resurrection the victory of life over death. After a carving in Straid Abbey, County Mayo.
