Description

Ivar the Boneless Pillar or The Steine of Long Stone Photo Card. 6×4 color photo with blue matt frame. Envelope and plastic sleeve. In the heart of Dublin just north of Trinity College is an archaeological site buried beneath the intersection of Pearse and College streets representing an original pillar believed to have been erected by the founding Viking fathers of Dublin on the banks of the Liffey river to prevent their ships from running aground. The original stood 12-14′ high most likely carved during the 10-11th century C.E. The original was taken down before 1750. In 1986 artisan Cliodna Cussen created a replacement commemorating “Ivar” the Viking ruler of Dublin during the 9th century. (c) 2012 Photograph by Leaf McGowan, Techno Tink Photography.
