We source our Bay Leaves from Frontier Herb, where it is imported from Turkey. The Bay leaf is highly versatile and fragrant, highly used in botanicals, especially in cooking (especially pasta and rice), teas, lotions, scented baths, and skin creams.
Mythologically and magically, Bay is a masculine tree, associated with the sun and the element of fire. It is attributed to the deities Aesculapius, Apollo, Ceres, Faunus, and Eros. It is used for protection, psychic powers, healing, purification, and strength magic. Apollo’s priestesses chewed on the leaves to induce a prophetic state, leaves are used in the celebration of Pagan Yule, and is added to clairvoyance and wisdom spells, brews, and teas. Leaves added to the pillow are said to bring on prophetic dreams. They are burned to induce visions. Worn as an amulet to protect against negativity and the evil eye, burned and scattered during exorcism rituals, placed in windows to protect against lightning, and hung in the household to prevent poltergeists to do mischief. Bay leaves mixed with sandalwood are burned to remove curses and evil spirits. The leaves give strength to athletes, especially in wrestling. Wishes are written on bay leaves then burned to make them come true. Bay leaf in the mouth wards off bad luck.
