Description
Lavendula offinale or sera
folk names: Elf Leaf, Nard, Nardus, Spike
Our lavender is either grown in our herb garden, sourced from local Northern Washington Whatcom county farms, or from San Francisco Herb Company or Frontier Herb which source them from France or Bulgaria. The plant and flower have a sweet aroma that refreshes, relaxes, and uplifts giving senses of calm and balance. Its widely used in cooking, herbal sachets, potpourri, creams, lotions, shampoos, body powders, baths, salves, mists, and cocktails.
Mythologically and magically it is used for love, in love spells, and is considered an aphrodisiac. It is used to soothe troubled minds and freshen sick rooms. Some folklore claims it is used for hysteria, nervous palpitations, hoarseness, palsy, toothaches, sore joints, apoplexy, and colic. Herbalists claim it is a carminative, antispasmodic, and stimulant.  It is considered a masculine plant, associated with the planet Mercury, the element air, and powers of love, protection, sleep, chastity, longevity, purification, happiness, and peace.  Often used in spells and sachets to attract love. Rubbed on love notes. It is said the scent attracts men. Flowers are smoldered to induce sleep and rest, scattered to maintain peacefulness, and used in healing mixtures.
